How it works

A flex league, in four moves.

01

Self-rate yourself

Pick your NTRP level on the 1.0–7.0 scale. Most rec players land 2.5–4.0. Not sure? Sign up tells you what each level looks like in practice.

02

Get sorted into a division

You’re placed with a small group of players within ~0.5 NTRP of you. Smaller pool = real rivalries, not random strangers every match.

03

Propose matches your way

DM an opponent with three times that work for you. Or post an open challenge and let any division-mate claim it. No fixed weeknight slot.

04

Play. Report. Climb.

Either player enters the score. Standings, ratings, and head-to-heads update instantly. Top finishers get promoted next season.

Who plays

Whatever your game looks like.

We’re not just for ringers. The whole point of dividing into divisions is that you play people at your level.
The weekend re-up
NTRP 2.5–3.0

Haven’t played in years.

Picked the racquet back up. Looking for low-stakes matches with someone in the same boat — not a former college player who happens to be bored.

The Saturday regular
NTRP 3.5–4.0

Plays most weekends.

Has a regular hitting partner, but wants more matches and a real reason to keep score. Tracks the climb without taking it too seriously.

The bring-it
NTRP 4.5+

Tournament background.

Wants competitive matches without the politics of club leagues. Top three each season ship up to the next division.

Brand new to leagues? Start at 2.5 or 3.0. We auto-adjust your rating after the first few matches, so you’ll land in the right place even if you guessed.

SUMMER ’26
Charter season
$0 / season

We’re brand-new. The deal: play your matches, give us feedback, help shape the league while it’s still small enough that your input matters. We’ll start charging next year — and you’ll be grandfathered in at a permanent discount.

Full access to every division in your city
Unlimited match proposals + open challenges
Standings, head-to-heads, automatic rating updates
Court fees not included — split with your opponent
Claim a charter spot
Coming next year
~$30 / season (est.)

Why we’ll charge: a small fee filters out flakes. People who pay $30 actually show up to their matches, which is the whole point of a league.

Charter members will pay less, forever.

A note from the team

We started HQ.tennis because we love league tennis but kept missing matches when life got in the way.

Most leagues lock you into a Tuesday night for eight weeks. Miss two and you’re cooked. We wanted the structure of a league — real opponents at your level, real standings — without the rigidity of a fixed calendar.

Flex leagues solve that. You get matched into a small division, and you and your opponents work out times that actually fit your week. We just keep score.

We’re launching in three cities this summer and we’re going to do this slowly and well. If that sounds good, come play.

Questions

The usual stuff.

What's NTRP and how do I know mine?
NTRP (the USTA's National Tennis Rating Program) is a 1.0–7.0 scale. Most rec players land between 2.5 and 4.0. If you've never been rated, our sign-up flow walks you through what each level looks like in practice — you'll place yourself accurately enough to have competitive matches from day one. We auto-adjust as you play.
How is this different from USTA leagues or UTR?
USTA leagues assign you fixed weekly matches with set teams — miss a couple and you're out. UTR is closer to a rating service. HQ.tennis is a flex format: you're in a small division, but you and your opponents pick when, where, and even whether to play each match. Real standings, real climb, on your time.
What if I can't find a time with my opponent?
Two paths. Propose three times directly to a player — they pick one or counter. Or post an open challenge for the week and let any opponent in your division claim it. Most matches we've test-run get scheduled within 48 hours.
Who pays for the court?
You and your opponent split the court fee at whichever public or club court works for both of you. We surface saved courts and search for nearby options when you propose a match, but we're not a booking service — you arrange the reservation.
How long is a season? How many matches?
Eight weeks. You'll have 10–14 division opponents and we recommend playing as many as you can. Top finishers get promoted to the next division for the following season.
I'm rusty / new to leagues. Is this for me?
Yes. Start at 2.5 or 3.0 — that's the whole point of dividing by NTRP. You'll have close matches whether you're new or competitive, and you can ramp up the volume on your terms.
Doubles?
Singles only at launch. Doubles is on the roadmap.
What does it really cost?
Free for the Summer '26 charter season — no asterisks, no upsell. We expect to charge a small fee (around $30/season) starting next year to keep flake rates down. Charter members get a permanent discount.
When do matches actually start?
First matches start June 1. You can sign up now, get sorted into your division, and start lining up opponents the moment your season opens.

The next match is this season.

First matches start in 7 days. Charter season is free — claim a spot before signups close.
